A new mantra

From an old song "Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride, nobody's gonna slow me down, oh no I got to keep on moving"

Last Tuesday Spencer had surgery on his right hand which was an identical procedure to the one he had done in October. Except that it was the opposite hand with a bone graft taken from the opposite hip. Here he is hours after surgery being cheered up with a popsicle and the beloved blanket. Later came the new trains (a reward for much bravery) and a visit from Carson, Grandma and Grandpa Doll, Uncle KC and Aunt Molly.

The night spent at the hospital with Dad was not much fun and more time was spent awake then asleep. Day 2 was not a pretty sight, as Spencer was beyond tired, still in pain, and refused to walk on his own. Yes, I was pretty much useless as my large belly prevented me from holding, carrying, lifting or spending the night at the hosptial. After being discharged back to Grandma and Grandpa Doll's house the rest of the day was spent on the couch.

Day 3 brought back our happy, easy going Spencer who was up for baseball in the backyard, a sponge bath in the sink and a plane ride back to WA. Day 4 he was back to limping a step behind Carson, wrestling with Grandpa Oliver and playing "adventure" in the backyard. I truly marvel at his ability to smile through pain and discomfort and deal with the fact he will be carrying around another "whacker-boomer" (his name not ours) for six weeks. Apparently if this can't slow him down, nothing will. As I near the end of my pregnancy it's a good reminder to me to smile more and whine less. . .

We feel blessed to have so many dear family members and friends both in CA and in WA (and other states as well) who love and support our family. We are reminded of them every time we look and Spencer's cast, we are well loved!
