With the beginning of a new week and Nick's return to work we find ourselves missing the man who has held us together the last week. You can tell he's had his hands full. We love you, come home soon!

Introducing Jamison Leroy Oliver

Jamison Leroy Oliver was born Thursday afternoon, March 19th weighing in at 8 lbs. 10 oz. and 20 inches long. He is a perfect little man. Mom and baby are both doing very well. Labor and delivery went quickly and smoothly. He is loved already by Mom, Dad, Carson and Spencer--and many others.

Welcome to the family, Jamison.

Trapped

What you don't have leprechaun traps at your house? You should get some, I hear they are all the rage on the Kindergarten scene right now. What you don't even believe the little men exist? Don't tell Carson he'll argue all afternoon with you on that one. Although the pennies (fake gold) and marshmallows as bait were not enough to catch them, they were kind enough to leave behind a "Nice Try" note and some rainbow candy. No worries, he's already making plans for improvements that are sure to work tonight . . . how long do we keep playing along for?

P.S. I take no credit for projects like this. It is the work of an amazing Kindergarten teacher and a child with a wild imagination (see previous posts). The last two weeks my efforts as a mother have been brought to you by PBS and Playhouse Disney.

Big Fish Stories

Lately Nick and I have noticed the line between fantasy and reality is quite blurred when you are 5 especially when it comes to storytelling. Often midway through one of Carson's stories we'll stop him and ask "is this a true story or a made up one?" Usually he just gives us this look that seems to say "is there a difference?" Really I don't mind that his imagination runs wild, I just want him to be able to separate between the two. So here's the latest example:

A friend emailed me yesterday after volunteering in Carson's Kindergarten class. She was asked by the teacher to pull each student to the back of the room and ask them to think of 4 things they like about themselves or enjoy doing. Without hesitation (or any prior warning that he would be asked this question) Carson immediately responded that one of his favorite things to do was to go to the zoo with his dad because that is where his dad works and they feed the jaguars together. Really is working for Microsoft that common in these parts (or boring for that matter) that he had to think of a better occupation for Nick? It's a little worrisome as well that he tells these stories to others when we are not around to correct the story or defend ourselves. Please tell me this is only a phase (preferably one of the shorter ones).

Just in case you were looking for a little more depth in your daily blog readings apparently Nick has started one of his own http://www.latterdayvoice.com/blog/ I'll warn you it doesn't have nearly as many cute pictures of our boys as this one does.

The Beginning of the End

I think it's here, the beginning of the end of this pregnancy. It has to be coming near, there are no places left for me to nest. I am getting desperate; I've cleaned out the fridge, under the bathroom sinks and every closet in the house. Why? This is very much against my personality but every instinct tells me to clean and organize and then start over and do it again. The baby's clothes have been washed and put away and the newborn diapers have been bought. Spencer helped me finish the baby quilt and we've set up the crib and have fresh sheets waiting. The gym membership has been put on hold (although I will proudly admit I made it to week 33 before I had to do so!) My bottle of heartburn medication is nearly empty and I really don't want to buy another, I've gone through nearly 5 this pregnancy. The scale continues to inch its way up and I'm on my way to outweighing Nick once again. Which leaves me with only 2 pairs of pants, and I refuse to buy anything else from the maternity department. I don't sleep at night and can't think of anything else during the day. I have a whole laundry list of other end of pregnancy symptoms which I will spare you the specifics of. Sounds like we are ready, but I'm not sure I'm REALLY "ready" for the end. I've done a pretty good job of avoiding thinking about the process it takes to actually get the baby out. I figure it will happen either way, why dwell on it? And then there is the subject of what to name the child. . . it's still under discussion, has been for the last 8 1/2 months. And now the waiting game begins, it could be a matter of days or weeks but either way it's coming .
