This week for FHE we tried out an idea I saw in a recent copy of Family Fun magazine. All that is required is a few boxes of colorful bendy straws (connected by squeezing one end and sliding it into the end of another), and a little creativity and presto you have a cheap and easy creation that gives the fine motor skills a workout. The boys had a great time and I have to admit I was into it as well!

Is it just me or are Cadbury Mini Eggs dangerously irresistable? I can't stay away from them and I'm considering hiding the bag from myself. It's a good thing they are only available one month out of the year otherwise there might be some serious consequences.

The Cost Of Free: You Get What You Pay For

Yes, we have had some issues hosting our little family blog. The short story is that we had been enjoying free web hosting and a free blogging application.

Welcome to our second version of the family blog. We are now paying for cheap web hosting. We hope we get at least some cheap support in return!

2/19/2008 - Here Comes The Sun

The last few days we've been experiencing a Northwest winter phenomenon known as a "sunny day". Isn't there a saying "work while the sun shines"? Well it's common knowledge in these parts that while the sun shines you’d better go out and enjoy it because it may not happen again for a while. So yesterday after preschool we skipped the grocery store and spent a glorious afternoon at the park picnicking with friends and reacquainting the boys with that big bright circle in the sky. After a trip to get groceries today (hey, you can only live off ketchup, pickles and soy sauce for so long) the boys have done nothing but play in the sandbox, chase each other on the lawn and insist on eating lunch outside. What can I say they were both born in California and like me being outside in the sunshine make us happy!

2/6/2008 - True Love

Since its February the month in which we express our deepest feelings for those we love and cherish I thought I'd take a minute to talk about my boys and their "lovies". Let's begin with Carson shall we? Carson can't seem to choose just one so instead he has an entourage of stuffed animals (Bed Buddy, Piggy, "Mason Jones" courtesy of Wendy's Happy Meal and Batty) and the beloved fringed blankie. They accompany him every morning to the living room to watch cartoons after he wakes up. They are usually sent back to the bedroom for the rest of the morning until they make their return for naptime and then back out to the living room after naps. For some reason it seems like they are ALWAYS out. There are always tears when one can't be found at bedtime, which is often because like I said they're always out. And oh the drama when we say he can't take them all on vacation. It's like a mother choosing which of her children she'll save from the burning house.

Then there is Spencer and the "soft blankie" with the yarn tassels. When the blanket is out Spencer can't do anything but cuddle and rub the yarn on his face and make little animal noises. I'm not kidding he is absolutely paralyzed when it's around, he won't play, eat or even respond to his name being called. As his parents we'd like for him to interact, play and improve his communication so we've had to put a baby lock on his door so he can't get it out of his crib during the day. However, there are times he convinces Carson to let him in so he can sneak a little lovin' in mid-morning, hence the picture above.

On one hand I am glad they both have found items to comfort them when they are sick or sad. On the other hand I wonder at what point they'll become less attached to them. Am I going to have to line their missionary suits with soft blankets so they can get through a door approach? Who knows, for now I say "love on my boys, love on!"
